Bishop of Dudley finds out how we support people in poverty
On 11th July, The Rt Revd Graham Usher, Bishop of Dudley attended two of our services as he was keen to understand more about Poverty within the Borough and services supporting residents in need.
In the morning, he visited Sue Potter, Team Leader at our Brierley Hill service to learn more about Welfare Benefits and was enlightened on the Local Welfare Assistance Loan scheme which we operate in partnership with Dudley Council and the Castle and Crystal Credit Union, and how residents of the borough can obtain assistance through the loan scheme, as well as receiving assistance through the local food bank.
In the afternoon, he attended a team meeting with our Money Advice Team with Team Leader, Kam Bahra who explained about assisting clients with debt issues and how clients are already on limited income and are struggling between paying their bills and keeping food on the table. The implementation of Universal credit was discussed and how lots of clients find it difficult to budget on such low incomes.
The Bishop gave his thanks to both services for enabling him to achieve a better insight into the day to day struggles many residents of Dudley Borough find themselves in and the hard work of all our staff to alleviate the poverty issues for so many people.
