Staff Conference – 7th November 2018

On Wednesday 7th November we held our Staff Conference – this year’s theme was ‘Health and Wellbeing’ and Laura Thomas, CEO, launched our ‘Thrive at Work Wellbeing’ Project.

It was wonderful to spend the day, out of our normal routine, getting staff & volunteers together to share ideas around how we can improve our own physical and mental health at work and in our home lives and how we can support each other day to day.

We heard from some fantastic guest speakers – Dave Heeley ‘Blind Dave’, an amazing young artist Becky Lawley & Faye Hall (Dudley Young Persons Health Champion) & our own Chair, Steve Handscomb, who really inspired us with their amazing and courageous stories of overcoming adversity, whether that be through a physical disability, mental ill health or the importance of ‘looking out’ for friends and loved ones. We even had a surprise guest singer, Lorrie Blake, one of our fabulous Macmillan Caseworkers who was so enthused by the mornings event’s she got up to sing a very moving Acapella version of ‘Bridge over Troubled Water’  – absolutely wonderful !

The day was rounded off with our Awards Ceremony – staff & volunteers were asked to nominate colleagues for various categories of awards reflecting Citizens Advice’s Values – Responsible, Generous, Inventive, Supportive and ‘Going above and Beyond’ – so well done to all our winners !  We also celebrated staff/volunteers Length of Service (some have been with us 19 + years!!)  Finally, we congratulated all those volunteers who have achieved Competency (no mean feat!) as Advisers & Assessors since our last conference.

We all took away some really positive messages which we will now see start to evolve over the coming months around our Health and Wellbeing – so watch this space!
