Learning, Growing, and Giving Back: Work Experience at Citizens Advice Dudley & Wolverhampton
This July, Citizens Advice Dudley & Wolverhampton were delighted to welcome Danny, a Year 10 student, to complete his work experience placement with us. At just 15, Danny brought great enthusiasm and curiosity to the week, he was keen to learn more about how we support our communities and the difference our work makes in people’s lives. From shadowing staff to getting hands on with admin tasks, Danny immersed himself fully in the experience. In his blog below, Danny reflects on his time with us, sharing what he learned, how his confidence grew, and how the experience has inspired him to consider volunteering or even pursuing a future career in advice.
‘My name is Danny, I’m aged 15 years old and I completed Work Experience with Citizens Advice Dudley and Wolverhampton in July 2025.
I was interested in completing work experience with Citizens Advice because I wanted to learn more about how they help people in our community. I also felt that this could be an area of employment that I would like to work in, in the future, as I do enjoy helping others.
During my work experience I learned a lot and completed lots of tasks including:
• Listening to talks and presentations around Citizens Advice – what they do and the history of the organisation.
• Interviewing different staff members about their role and observing them in completing their roles. It was very inspirational to hear some of the stories of the difference that the advice and support given has made to clients lives.
• Supporting with Business Support and Administration tasks such as photocopying, scanning and post tasks.
• Learning more about the Research and Campaigns work that Citizens Advice complete, which was really interesting to see how they impact change on a national scale.
I found it challenging at first to ask questions when interviewing staff members about their role but I gained confidence as the week progressed and by the end of the week I felt really comfortable doing this and asking for help when I needed to.
I really enjoyed my time with Citizens Advice and in the future, I would definitely like to look into volunteering to give back to the community and possibly look for paid employment too in an advice role. From what I learned this week, the advice Citizens Advice give can make a huge difference and can be a very rewarding career.
If I could give any advice to future work experience students, it would be to definitely check if there are any placement opportunities available at Citizens Advice Dudley & Wolverhampton, everyone is very welcoming and kind and you learn a lot’.
